GLS University's Faculty of Law celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution with a grand year-long celebration known as Samvidhan Safar. This initiative is a testament to the institution's commitment to honouring the spirit of the Constitution and raising awareness about its core principles. As part of this celebration, the faculty organised a Kartavya rally, or Walk for Duties, on December 1, 2024, to emphasise the critical role of fundamental duties in the growth and development of a nation. The event was flagged off by Prof. (Dr.) Amar Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, in the esteemed presence of Shri Sudhir Nanavati, President of GLS University; Dr. Chandini Kapadia, Executive Director, GLS University; Dr. Dharmesh Shah, Provost, GLS University; and Dr. Mayuri Pandya, Dean, Faculty of Law, GLS University. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and its purpose.
The Kartavya Rally witnessed the overwhelming participation of approximately 1,200 law students, who showcased their enthusiasm and commitment by walking a five-kilometer stretch. Holding placards, banners, and posters, the participants passionately highlighted the eleven fundamental duties enshrined in the Indian Constitution. These duties, essential for the sustenance of a harmonious and progressive society, include upholding the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of the nation; promoting harmony and brotherhood; preserving cultural heritage; protecting the environment; safeguarding public property; and striving for excellence. The students’ spirited display of patriotism and civic responsibility drew attention to the significance of these constitutional values in nation-building.
The rally was not only a demonstration of student engagement but also a moment of reflection and inspiration for all participants. The active involvement of dignitaries, faculty members, and students alike added to the event's success, as they walked together to symbolise unity and collective responsibility. By shedding light on the importance of fundamental duties, the Kartavya Rally served as a powerful reminder of every citizen's role in contributing to the nation's development and integrity. The rally reaffirmed the connection between duties and rights, emphasising the importance of a commitment to these duties for societal progress and well-being. The event, thus, became a meaningful tribute to the Indian Constitution, leaving an indelible impact on everyone present.
