The School of Doctoral Research and Innovation is responsible for leadership, oversight and policy advice in relation to the PhD degree as well as for support and guidance to research candidates and their supervisors.
The School promotes innovation and excellence in research education and researcher development across the University. Entry into the GLS University research program is competitive and successful applicants usually exceed the minimum entry requirements. Applicants are assessed for their knowledge of their chosen discipline and their ability to complete a rigorous research project. The criteria for assessment of applications are:
Qualifying Programmes

Applications From Foreign Countries
An Equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
Calculation of Eligibility
The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate is calculated based on the practice followed by the respective university/institution. In case of grades/CGPA, the conversion to percentage will have to be certified by the respective university/institution.
Applications in final year of qualifying programmes
Non-fulfilment of these conditions will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.
Applications with UGC-NET and Other Tests Cleared
Applicants who have qualified for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED, will get an exemption from GLSU Research Aptitude Test (GReAT) examination
HOW LONG DOES A PHD TAKE TO COMPLETE?
As per the University regulations, one can complete the PhD in minimum 3.5 years including coursework. The maximum duration is 5 years.
CAN I DO PHD PART TIME? IS THIS A REGULAR PHD PROGRAMM?
The University provides PhD in part time mode only. The program is regular by nature, but not full-time. The scholar does not need to visit the University every day. However, it is mandatory for the scholar to visit the supervisor and department on-demand.
WILL THE UNVERSITY PROVIDE STIPEND FOR PHD?
The University does not provide any stipend at this point of time. However, there are many government scholarships available, and SDRI provides assistance in applying for the same.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR PHD?
The application forms are available on the official website – www.glsuniversity.ac.in.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR THE PHD APPLICATION?
Interested candidates may apply using the Application Form available on the official website. After an acknowledgment email, the candidate will be informed about the schedule for the written test (GReAT) as well as for the research committee presentation. Candidates who successfully clear both these stages will be offered admission into the program.
CAN I WORK FULL TIME ALONG WITH PHD?
Yes, a scholar can be associated with any other organization/ institute in part-time or full-time capacity while pursuing his/her doctoral degree at GLSU SDRI.
HOW FREQUENTLY DO I NEED TO BE ON CAMPUS?
The coursework duration is six - eight months in the first year of the program. These are evening sessions held 2-3 times a week, from 06:00 PM onwards. Once the coursework is completed, the scholar needs to come to the campus to meet the supervisor as well as provide updates about their progress once in every six months.
WHAT ARE THE FEES FOR THE PHD PROGRAM?
The fees for the program are Rs. 30,000 per semester.
